Can Stairlifts Be Used Outside?
Yes. We offer both indoor and outdoor stairlifts.
Do Stairlifts Need Servicing?
To guarantee all systems continue to operate safely and effectively, stairlifts require annual maintenance, or more frequent servicing if specified by the manufacturer.
What is the Difference Between Exploring a New Stairlift and Used Stairlifts?
LIO Mobility does offer gently used and inspected stairlifts for sale. Used models are a wonderful way to achieve mobility freedom on a budget, but new stairlifts offer added value of the newest stairlift technology, full warranties, and brand new batteries. Custom curved stairlifts are not typically available in used options since they are designed for a specific staircase.
Are Stairlifts Safe?
Yes, stairlifts are safe. Modern stairlifts are mounted securely to the steps and are equipped with many safety features such as constant pressure activation switches, overspeed sensors, obstructions sensors, and seat belts.
Will Medicare Pay for Stairlifts?
No. Medicare does not typically cover stairlifts since these devices are not classified as durable medical equipment, but rather home modifications which are not covered.

If My Stairs Have a Turn or Landing Do I Have to Have a Custom Curved Stairlift?
Not always. There are a few factors our team uses in helping you determine the best fit for your autonomy.
If you can safely navigate one or two steps at the top or bottom of your staircase, a straight stairlift may be an option on the main section of your stairway.
If you can safely transfer from one lift to another, two straight stairlifts may be an option.
If your staircase has “Pie-Shaped” or “Triangle-Shaped” steps where the turn is made, typically a curved stairlift is the best and safest option.
How Much Does a Stairlift Cost?
To ensure we provide the best foundation for your independence, new stairlift prices are determined by the specifics of your home and the features you desire. Your personalized quote will be influenced by a few key factors.
Your Home’s Unique Layout: Costs vary between straight and curved systems. Straight stairlifts are typically less expensive than custom curved stairlifts.
Modern Capabilities: The addition of features, such as convenient folding rails to maximize your living space, power swivel seats, and increased weight capacities.
How Much is a Wheelchair Ramp?
There are a few factors that determine how much a ramp system will cost.
The amount of ramp needed: ADA requires ramps travel at a maximum slope of 1:12. This means for every inch of rise you will need one foot of ramp. Residential application slope can vary, but typically we do not recommend steeper than a 1:12 ratio except for extenuating circumstances. For example: 24 inches of rise would need 24 feet of ramp.
Any additional turns: In addition to the amount of ramp needed any direction changes or resting landings can affect price.
What Types of Ramps for Homes Do You Offer?
We offer aluminum modular ramp systems, threshold ramps, and portable suitcase ramps.
Will an Automotive Wheelchair Lift Work on My Vehicle?
Our lift experts run extensive vehicle lift compatibility to ensure a safe, user-friendly installation. We take into account things like wheelchair or scooter size and weight, and your specific vehicle capacities to ensure everything fits while staying within your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
How Much Does a VPL Cost?
For the most part vertical platform lifts are relatively cost-effective. Especially if you’re comparing them to a large ramp alternative. Some factors that can affect VPL cost:
Concrete: If you’re placing a VPL on existing concrete in a garage or on a driveway, new concrete may not be needed.
Lifting Height: Shorter lifting models are less expensive than taller lifting models.
Top Landings: If you elect to build or modify a top landing instead of placing the VPL directly against an existing door the cost of the landing will affect the price.
How Often Should a Mobility Scooter Be Serviced?
We recommend servicing any scooter, power wheelchair or mobility aid at least annually. This ensures it is operating at its peak performance.
Can You Leave a Mobility Scooter Plugged in All the Time?
We do not recommend leaving your scooter on the charger all the time. Even with today’s battery technology it is best for them to be charged as needed. Best practices for charging your scooter or wheelchair batteries:
Charge as needed, but when you do charge, charge overnight and take it off the charger in the morning. (10-12 hours)
If you’re going to store your wheelchair or scooter for a long period of time we recommend disconnecting the batteries from the device and charging them overnight once a month to keep them full, but not overcharged.
Can You Rent Ramps for Wheelchairs?
Yes. Whether you need to navigate one or two steps and a suitcase ramp might be an option. Or if you need an aluminum ramp system for a designated amount of time, LIO Mobility measures and installs rental ramps to fit your needs.
Can You Rent Stairlifts for Stairs?
Yes. LIO Mobility offers stairlifts for rent. If you need short term accessibility to different levels of your home a rental stairlift is a great option.
